A Court Of Mist And Fury
University Speculative Project

Making For The Weaver:

For The Weaver's costume, I aimed to create a character whose garment feels like part of her, aged and intertwined with her identity.

The back features a spine-like pleated detail, with layers of black pleated roses growing upward, evoking organic movement. The front bodice, embroidered and beaded in burnt orange and deep blue, offers a vintage, timeworn feel.

Controlled rips backed with silver fabric and embroidered mohair wisps symbolize decay, hair, and The Weaver’s deep connection to her work. This design blends fantasy, age, and identity, using texture and layering to tell the story of a character bound to her creation.

To reflect her eerie world, I learned to knit and crafted a skirt inspired by hair and animals—designed as if she had made it herself.

Learning to weave in six weeks tested my time management and planning skills. Exploring weaving and textural knitting pushed my technical and creative boundaries.

Using a demonstration knitting machine, I layered different wools to create texture and depth.

This hands-on approach sharpened my skills and emphasized the importance of experimentation, adaptability, and efficient scheduling under pressure.

10 Character Designs For A Court Of Mist And Fury:

This project explores Gothic culture through an Edwardian lens, inspired by A Court of Thorns and Roses and its dark take on Beauty and the Beast.

The collection blends elegance with unsettling details, designed for an adult audience drawn to layered narratives.

Techniques like embroidery, fabric manipulation, and weaving, influenced by my summer course with Michele Carragher, create rich textures. The Edwardian era provides structure, while surreal influences like Alexander McQueen and Tim Burton shape the fantasy elements.

Designed as a high-budget series concept, each costume reflects character history, with draping and hand-building techniques, particularly for The Weaver, developed through an experimental, character-led process.
